Alberto Pizarro Carrasco
I'm a software engineer and musician from Barcelona.
Things about me:
- I grew up in Barcelona, Spain.
- I'm fascinated by music scores, game design, and video games.
- I earned a Master's Degree in Computer Science Engineering from the Barcelona School of Informatics.
- I learned and helped build some of the first .com projects in Spain at a small consultancy in Barcelona, IHG. IHG helped build early digital platforms such as UOC, one of the first online universities in the world; Bertelsmann Online, or BOL, one of the pioneering online bookstores and e-commerce platforms; ActivoBank, one of the first online banks in Spain; and early B2B platforms like LeatherXchange.
- I worked on CirsaGames, one of the first online casino platforms in Spain, at Cirsa, one of Spain's major multinational gaming companies. I later contributed to betting game development from the UK at WagerWorks, shortly after it was acquired by IGT, one of the most relevant companies in the global gaming industry.
- Over the last 20 years, I have worked from Barcelona, Bogota, Madrid, and Amsterdam at NTT DATA, formerly DMR Consulting and everis, helping clients across banking, insurance, telecommunications, public sector, government agencies, and other industries in more than 10 countries. In that time, I have led specialized teams passionate about technology, design, digital transformation, cybersecurity, data, and artificial intelligence. From small teams to thousands, from small projects to big transformation programs.
- Since 2023, I have focused on transforming and modernizing client applications across Latin America, Iberia, and Benelux, while exploring the potential of AI across the software development lifecycle.
- Throughout my career, I have kept learning through project management, mobile application development, cloud, and artificial intelligence. Whenever I can, I build applications as a way to keep learning by doing.
- I live near Barcelona and try to spend as much time as I can with my family.
Things I'm interested in:
- Film music. Understanding the hidden message composers leave through music, and the secrets inside each sound, is a constant discovery. It keeps giving me new reasons to learn and practice piano every day.
- Playing guitar and piano. In every country I have lived in, these instruments have always been close by.
- Technology. I try to understand and read about its impact on society, from the futuristic perspective of science fiction and also from the sociological perspective of everyday life. I try to bring some of this into my day to day by bringing it into a coffee conversation with friends or colleagues.
- International perspective. Living and working across countries has taught me many unexpected things; the most important is learning to value different cultural points of view and the way they shape us.
